CAL WORTHINGTON AND HIS DOG SPOT
Calvin Coolidge "Cal" Worthington
27 November 1920 - 8 September 2013 (92)
If you grew up in the Southern California over the past thirty or so years, the name Cal Worthington conjurs up memories of tacky car dealership commercials and annoying jingles. So bad were these commercials that you had to look to see what his latest "dog spot" was going to be.
These commercials were known as the "My Dog Spot" ads because each commercial would introduce "Cal Worthington and his dog Spot!" However, the "dog" was never a dog. In most cases, it was an exotic animal being led around on a leash, such as a tiger or elephant.
