CATALINA GRAND PRIX - DECEMBER 3-5, 2010

Don't know what to do this weekend?  Travel twenty-six miles to Santa Catalina and take a trip back to the old days of motorcycle racing.   The last time this race was run was back in 1958.

Height: 12 1/2"
Sole: Cord
Hardware: Nickel
Condition: "Preowned"

It's amazing that such a late model pair o' boots would sell for this much.  My brother purchased a pair of these from Sears back in the 1990's so these may even be as late at the '90's.  The only real appeal on these is the profile...and the light patina - the same profile can be found on a pair of Chippewa #27863 Engineer's at a fraction of the price ($160).  It's an upredictable market, but these should have sold for well under two bills.

BROWN'S BEACH J-24 BUCO

The Japanese textile mill where the Brown’s Beach material is produced must be making a killing.  There are so many style variations of these cold-weather jackets and vests that it’s hard to keep up with the ones I like.  Here’s an interesting jacket from Ryota Sakai's O.C Style that combines Buco J-24 coolness with Brown’s Beach warmth.

Here's a group of Marines deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.  These Marines make up only about thirty percent of my deployed unit.  Notice my (unauthorized) wear of two large vintage Marine Corps Mexican rings.  I thought it'd be something neat to look at fifty years from now.

CUSHMAN BROWN'S BEACH VESTS

The folks at Cushman are always finding neat ways to reintroduce the Brown's Beach line.  Here, they offer some pretty cool colors at no-so-bad prices

¥ 25,800 or $314 - this is the same USD price you'd pay for an original if you can find one...in your size.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARINES!

On November 10, 1775, Robert Mullan, the proprietor of Tun Tavern and son of Peggy Mullan, was commissioned by an act of Congress to raise the first two battalions of Marines, under the leadership of Samuel Nicholas, the first appointed Commandant of the Continental Marines.

Older than the nation it defends, the Marine Corps celebrates its 235th birthday and honors all of the men and women that have served.

Yes, we were born in a bar...

Not a bad pair of boots.  I wouldn't have paid this much scratch for them, but they're nice nonetheless.  I guess when you wear a size 11, you'd have to jump at any opportunity for a pair of boots like these.  Although, around the time these boots sold online, there were quite a few larger size Vintage Engineer Boots that sold for much less.  My only real complaint is the unsightly re-heel.  I can almost guarantee that these boots had factory low-profile heels and the new ones leave much to be desired.  In my opinion these heels give them a 1970's profile reminiscent of those put out by Sears.

FS: MID CENTURY DOGBONE CLICK-BACK COUCH AND CHAIR SET

Jillian is doing some Spring Cleaning and it's time to "bye" to our 1950's Dog Bone Click Back set.  This is an amazing set with original black textured design fabric and the best part is that the couch doubles as a bed.

Both the couch and chair click back, so the chair can be used as an extension or for a smaller person.  This set is perfect to use as a guest sleeper especially if you have limited space.

This set is priced at $1,000

E-mail jvonv@me.com for more information.

Here is the set in my old guitar room in Laguna Beach

THEY CALL ME BABA BOOEY

And why shouldn't Gary release a book that, accoring to Howard, "no one will want to read?"  Afterall, Howard, Robin and Artie have all written number one selling books and he's only been Stern's producer for over twenty-six years. Will this top the charts?  Perhaps not, but it's sure to be interestingly funny.  I've got mine pre-ordered through Amazon.

"Fafa Flohi's" book hits the racks today.
