I'm surprised these boots sold for so much. Aside from these being a rare Chippewa brand, they really aren't much to scream about. The profile is consistent with a modern pair of Engineer Boots. I've seen a better profile on a pair of Red Wing 2268's. There hasn't been many "rare" engineer boots on eBay lately, so I think the winner was a little shocked when this brand showed up - Hell, I was shocked. Matter of fact, as soon as it was listed, I was the first to bid until I realize it was a size too small for me. I wouldn't have paid $625, though. My max bid would've been $300.00, which is consistent with the price of other vintage boots that sold recently. Comes to show that you just never know what things will sell for.
The leather is starting to peel and may only get worse over time. It's not conducive to the development of a nice patina that you see on other vintage boots, in my opinion. Conditioning may help.
I would definitely drop the same amount of money on a pair of Real McCoy Becks Horsehide Engineer Boots before I thought of spending that much on these boots.
